Volunteer with us

Suffolk family Carers rely on volunteers to help provide services and support to family carers.

Last year the dedicated team of volunteers at Suffolk Family Carers donated almost 5,000 hours of their time to support family carers lives.

“I have volunteered with Suffolk Family Carers for over 5 years now and the talk and support role gives me a great deal of satisfaction, knowing I have provided support to others when they are feeling lonely.”

One Family Carer said: “Many, many thanks for the support you have given me over this last year, I don’t think I would have managed without our conversations each week.”

Volunteering opportunities with Suffolk Family Carers
The roles we need to fill vary at any given time, and listed below are the key volunteer roles. If you have a particular skill or area of expertise that you feel would benefit the organisation, we can discuss other options.

Talk & Support From home / Claydon Once a week
This service provides friendly telephone support and a listening ear for a family carer who is isolated or who has a particularly difficult caring role. The role requires a commitment to phone a family carer once a week at a mutually convenient time. You make the phone calls from your own home or from our office in Claydon.

Family Carer Sessions volunteer Various locations in Suffolk Ad hoc
Meeting and greeting family carers coming along to our information sessions, making teas and coffees, helping to set up the meeting room and clearing away afterwards.

Administrative tasks Claydon Once a week/ ad hoc
We need help across all our projects with admin tasks such as sending out mailings, photocopying, designing fliers for events, making up information packs, updating databases – the list is endless.  The work can be done on a regular or ad-hoc basis to fit in with the time you can spare us. IT skills are useful but not essential for every role.

Carers Cabin Ipswich Hospital Once a week/ad hoc
This is a partnership project run by Suffolk Family Carers and Ipswich Hospital. The Carers Cabin provides a place for family carers visiting someone in the hospital to come and relax, talk to a volunteer and find out about support available to them. Suffolk Family Carers provides support and training to all of the Carers’ Cabin volunteers.

Support for Volunteers
We are committed to making volunteering with us an enjoyable and rewarding experience and place high importance on supporting our volunteers with ongoing training, regular contact and supervision.

We really value the contribution made by our volunteers and, although we are not able to pay you for what you do, reasonable previously agreed out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
