{"id":5193,"date":"2021-03-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bpddev2.uk\/clients2023\/metro\/air-freight-update-potential-heathrow-april-strikes\/"},"modified":"2024-02-02T08:57:23","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T08:57:23","slug":"air-freight-update-potential-heathrow-april-strikes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bpddev2.uk\/clients2023\/metro\/news\/air-freight-update-potential-heathrow-april-strikes\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Freight Update ; Potential Heathrow April strikes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Industrial action at London\u2019 Heathrow Airport by workers in the engineering, fire service, security, terminal operations, airside and landside sectors, will run from from the 2nd to 25th April, with the union Unite predicting \u201ca massive effect\u201d on cargo handling operations.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Heathrow staff will stage a series of strikes, in the long running dispute over pay and conditions, with a total of 41 strikes across the sectors, to be held from 2nd to 25th&nbsp;April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each sector will be taking seven days of strike action which, according to Unite, means that during the strike period at least one of the sectors will be on strike on most days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The union has accused&nbsp;Heathrow&nbsp;of planning to&nbsp;\u201cfire and rehire\u201d its entire workforce, while the airport said the strikes&nbsp;\u201cunnecessarily threaten further damage to the business\u201d and said frontline colleagues had accepted a new pay offer&nbsp;\u201cabove the market rate and London Living wage.&nbsp;\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aviation industry has been hit hard by coronavirus with passenger numbers at Heathrow slumping to their lowest level since 1966 and losses of over \u00a32 billion since the start of the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unite confirmed that the planned industrial action would affect air cargo handling operations at the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYes it will have a massive effect. The campus security guards are responsible for all transport going on and off the airport.
